Arrive Vietnam

Xin Chao! Welcome to Vietnam, the land of the “Ascending Dragon”.

Once you have cleared all customs procedures in Hanoi, collect your luggage and head towards the exit of the terminal where your English-speaking driver will be waiting to chauffeur you to your overnight hotel. Once checked in, the remaining day is at your leisure.

2 Nights in Hanoi – you can choose your hotel and standards below

Day 2

Hanoi Like a Local

Start your day with a private tour of the historical Ba Dinh Square, where President Ho Chi Minh announced Vietnam’s independence from France in 1945. Reach the Lenin Garden, a communal space for locals and walk with your private English-speaking guide through the small alleys of Hanoi where sewing shops have been in family hands for generations. Admire the daily life of local people who still practice an old way of life in the alleys of Hanoi, and capture the unique experience on camera.

Next, visit the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first national university built in the late 11th century before heading onto the Ethnology Museum, both a research centre and a public museum exhibiting the ethnic groups of Vietnam.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and explore Hanoi’s charming old quarter. Walk through the busy street of Nha Chung, stop at an old French house for tea break, and talk with a local resident to discover more about the change of life in each period.

The day concludes with a water puppet performance, a uniquely northern Vietnamese art form said to have originated in the flooded rice fields of the Red River Delta.

Breakfast and lunch included

Day 3

Halong Bay

After breakfast, you leave Hanoi for a 2.5-hour comfortable car ride to Halong Bay. The scenery of Halong Bay, where thousands of limestone islands jut out of the emerald sea, sculpted into bizarre shapes, is truly an iconic image of Vietnam.

An overnight boat trip is the best way to enjoy this Vietnamese must-see. As you arrive at the jetty in Halong City around noon, proceed with check-in formalities.

After lunch, you set sail toward the bay while enjoying some site visits and activities (depending on each boat’s itinerary) or relaxing on board. Toward the end of the day, your ship sets anchor for the night among the karst formations.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included

Learn how to select fresh produce and ingredients essential for Vietnamese cuisine. Embark on a relaxing 20-minute boat trip along the Thu Bon River to arrive at the school. After a tour of the herb garden, join a hands-on cooking class led by an expert instructor and learn how to prepare delicious dishes you’ll savour afterwards in the lovely restaurant overlooking the river. Angkor Wat

Following breakfast at your hotel, visit Angkor Thom and its South Gate, Bayon Temple, built from the late 12th century to the early 13th century by King Jayavarman VII. Make your way to the Royal Enclosure and Phimeanakas before heading into the jungle to Ta Prohm, where trees are overgrown with vines and roots.

Begin with breakfast at the hotel before heading out of town with your private English-speaking driver and guide on the newly paved road that leads to the intricately carved and well-preserved temple of Banteay Srei. Along the way, make a stopover at the Preah Dark village to visit Banteay Samre, a temple adorned with impressive reliefs depicting scenes from Vishnu stories as well as Krishna legends.

In the afternoon, visit the Roluos Group. The monuments of Rolous were built in the late 9th century by Indravarman I as a tribute to his ancestors. Bakong is the largest and most interesting of the Roluos group temples, with its active Buddhist monastery just to the north of its east entrance. Lolei was built on an island in a large reservoir by Yasovarman I, who founded Angkor’s first city. Return to the hotel and spend the rest of the evening at your leisure.

Today, your English-speaking driver will collect you from your hotel for a transfer back to Siem Reap airport and an onward flight to Saigon.

Begin at the Notre Dame Cathedral (built in 1883), a red brick edifice with twin campaniles constructed from materials imported from France. Venture across the square to the Central Post Office and the former Presidential Palace. Continue to the War Remnants Museum for a vivid perspective of the American War through the eyes of the Vietnamese. (Please note that some of the displays are very graphic.)

Experience the famous street coffee culture of Saigon while your guide provides a brief language lesson, along with insights into daily life of the Saigonese before dining at a local restaurant for dinner.

Travel with your guide to a local village to enjoy some sweets and hot tea, or even take a bike ride through the streets of this small town.
