European Christmas Markets Tour Overview

Discover the most enchanting Christmas markets in Europe on a hosted small group journey that blends iconic cities, fairytale towns, and a luxury Rhine river cruise. From Parisian sparkle and the twinkling Tuileries Christmas Market, to storybook Alsace villages, Rothenburg’s medieval magic, and festive ports along the Rhine — every detail is thoughtfully planned, beautifully paced, and completely hosted from start to finish.

What Makes This Journey Special

This journey is built around the moments that make Christmas in Europe feel properly magical — not just the markets, but the atmosphere in between. Paris in December is all sparkle and tradition, from iconic views to the kind of cosy hot chocolate stop that feels like a real little ritual. Then it slows beautifully in Alsace, where Colmar and the surrounding villages glow at night and every street feels like a postcard you’ve stepped into.

The middle of the trip is the bit most people don’t do well on their own: Rothenburg after dark. You arrive with enough daylight to actually see the town properly, then lean right into the evening with a hosted German dinner, Kathe Wohlfahrt, and a lantern-lit Night Watchman walk that makes the medieval streets feel like a story coming to life.

And to finish, you swap hotels for the comfort of a luxury Rhine cruise — full board dining, beautiful suites, and festive ports that let you experience Christmas-market culture without repacking every day. It’s small (max 13), social in the best way, and paced so you get the highlights plus the breathing room that makes it feel special.

It’s stylish. It’s meaningful. It’s unforgettable.

Day 1

Friday, 11 December 2026

Welcome to Paris — the city that knows how to sparkle at Christmas. Arrive into Paris and meet your driver for a private transfer to your boutique hotel (final confirmation TBC). After check-in, you’ll have time to freshen up and settle in — whether that’s a quick nap, a wander to the nearest patisserie, or simply taking in that “we’re really here” feeling.

In the early evening, meet your Click and Trip host and fellow travellers in the hotel lobby before heading out for your welcome dinner. Tonight is all about easing into the journey — great food, that first glass of wine together, and the excitement of what’s ahead. Your welcome dinner is at a beautiful Paris restaurant with a view, set for the perfect first night: relaxed, social, and unmistakably Paris.

Dinner Included
Please note: Twin bedding is very limited across Europe, especially in boutique hotels. Twin rooms and suite twin configurations are offered on a first-come basis, and we will always do our best to accommodate requests wherever possible.

Day 2

Saturday, 12 December 2026

Today is the perfect first-timer introduction to Paris – iconic views, festive streets, and those little moments that make the city feel properly magical in December. After breakfast at the hotel, meet your Click and Trip host in the lobby and link up with your local private guide, then head out to explore by a relaxed mix of walking and Metro.

Start with those classic Eiffel Tower views from Trocadéro, then make your way to the Arc de Triomphe and along the Champs-Élysées, soaking up the lights and buzz that makes Paris feel so alive in December. Along the way, you’ll enjoy a hosted ‘famous hot chocolate’ stop — cosy, indulgent, and always a group favourite.

Continue toward the Notre-Dame / Île de la Cité area for an iconic photo stop and a quick orientation of one of the most historic parts of the city, before visiting Galeries Lafayette to see the Christmas tree and take in the rooftop views. You’ll finish in the Jardin des Tuileries and the Tuileries Christmas Market, where the city feels at its most festive — twinkling stalls, warm treats, and that classic Paris-in-December atmosphere. Dinner is at leisure tonight, with your host on hand for recommendations if you’d like to keep the night going.

Day 3

Sunday, 13 December 2026

This morning, it’s time to swap Parisian sparkle for fairytale Alsace. After breakfast at the hotel and check-out, you’ll transfer to the station for your high-speed train to Colmar. Final train times will be confirmed once the 2026 schedules are released, but you can expect a comfortable journey with reserved seating — an easy, scenic way to glide toward the next chapter of the trip.

Arrive in Colmar and transfer to your boutique hotel (final confirmation TBC). After check-in, meet your local guide for a beautiful orientation walk through the old town — the kind of place where every corner looks like a postcard. You’ll wander through charming streets and squares, with plenty of time for photos, little discoveries, and that first “this place is unreal” feeling.

This afternoon includes a group boat ride through Little Venice — one of the loveliest ways to see Colmar’s canals and timbered houses from a different perspective. The evening is yours to explore the Christmas markets at your own pace, with warm lights, festive stalls, and seasonal treats around every turn.

Day 4

Monday, 14 December 2026

After breakfast at the hotel, it’s time to head into the Alsace countryside — the bit that makes this region feel so different to anywhere else in Europe. With your Click and Trip host leading the flow, you’ll travel by private coach through vineyard landscapes and wintery little valleys, arriving in villages where the timbered houses glow with garlands, wreaths, and festive detail that feels almost too perfect to be real.

With a local guide, you’ll enjoy a guided walk through Riquewihr — one of Alsace’s most iconic villages — full of cobbled lanes, storybook shopfronts, and that warm, cinnamon-in-the-air kind of atmosphere. Today also includes a local wine tasting, which feels especially fitting in this region where Christmas traditions and vineyard culture go hand in hand.

Later, continue to Ribeauville for more market time and wandering at your own pace — browse handmade gifts, sample seasonal treats, and soak up the cosy village vibe that makes Alsace so famous in December.

Return to Colmar later in the day, with the evening free to revisit your favourite stalls or find a lovely little spot for dinner.

Day 5

Tuesday, 15 December 2026

After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll have a relaxed morning to enjoy Colmar one last time — whether that’s a final market wander, a coffee stop, or a few last photos in the pretty lanes near Little Venice. Late morning, check out and travel by private coach from Alsace into Germany, heading toward one of Europe’s most iconic medieval towns. The goal today is a comfortable arrival while there’s still daylight — so you can see Rothenburg ob der Tauber at its prettiest, with the winter sun low in the sky and the first lights beginning to glow. On arrival, you’ll visit the famous Christmas store — a true festive wonderland and an experience in itself — before checking in and taking time to freshen up.

Tonight is one of the highlights of the whole journey: a hosted German dinner in a traditional restaurant, featuring a local favourite that feels perfectly at home in this borderland region. After dinner, the magic continues with a lantern-lit evening walk led by the Night Watchman — the kind of experience that brings Rothenburg’s streets to life, with stories and atmosphere that make the town feel even more special after dark.

It’s the perfect balance after last night’s hosted magic.

Later, travel by private coach to Frankfurt to begin the river cruise portion of your journey. Once onboard, settle into your suite and enjoy the shift into pure comfort — warm interiors, beautifully paced service, and the gentle feeling of gliding toward the next festive destination. What Our Travellers Say

European Christmas Markets Tour FAQs

Arriving a little early? This is a gorgeous festive add-on near Paris — lights, atmosphere, and a proper “wow” moment. We can help you plan it independently.

Maximum 13 travellers. It stays social, easy to move around together, and still gives everyone space to do their own thing.

It’s a mix — solo travellers, friends, couples, and anyone who loves the idea of experiencing Christmas-market Europe with a like-minded group (without it feeling like a “tour group”). Ages can vary, but the vibe is usually the same: quality experiences, a bit of comfort, and plenty of atmosphere.

Absolutely. You can choose to share (matched by gender where possible) or request your own room, subject to availability.

We’re currently planning around boutique stays that keep you close to the action: Left Bank Paris (Saint-Germain-des-Pres area), Colmar Old Town/Little Venice, and inside (or right by) Rothenburg’s Old Town walls. The styles we’re basing it on include Paris: Hotel Le Saint Gregoire, Colmar: Le Colombier, and Rothenburg: Hotel Eisenhut. Final hotel confirmation is always subject to availability and operational changes between now and departure — if we need to adjust, we’ll keep the same location focus and boutique feel, and prioritise what works best for the group.

Think boutique and well-paced. You’ll have beautiful, walkable bases in Paris, Colmar and Rothenburg, plus local guides where it matters so the days feel easy and seamless — but with breathing room for markets, cafes, and your own little discoveries.

It’s elevated all-suite river cruising with full board dining and flexible meal times, so you can eat when it suits you (within service hours) and never feel rushed. Service is genuinely lovely, and every suite includes butler service for those extra touches — from helping with laundry to making life onboard feel effortless while you watch the Rhine drift past your window.

Your Click and Trip host is with you throughout. Local guides join at key ports for sightseeing and included experiences, so each destination feels smooth and well-orchestrated without you needing to figure anything out on the day.

It’s active, but not rushed. There’s walking most days, but the pacing is thoughtful and the itinerary is designed to feel easy — especially across the cruise portion, where the ship does the travel while you relax.

A moderate level of fitness is perfect. Expect walking on cobblestones, some stairs in historic areas, and a bit of public transport in Paris. If you’re comfortable strolling for a couple of hours with breaks, you’ll be great.

Smart casual is perfect. Think nice knit, blouse, trousers, skirt or a winter dress. For men, a collared shirt and smart trousers works well. No need for anything overly formal — just polished and cosy.

Basel is a perfect launch point for Switzerland. If you’d like to add a couple of nights (think Lucerne, Zurich, or a scenic rail route), we can share ideas after booking. Otherwise, after breakfast onboard, you’ll disembark and we’ll include a private transfer depending on your onward plans. If your flight is later or you’re extending, just let us know.

Booking is beautifully simple. Just hit the white “Book Now” button at the top of the page (or below these FAQs) and follow the prompts. You’ll choose your room type first — twin share, solo (private room), or a double for two — then secure your place with an $800 deposit per person. From there, you can either pay the balance in instalments or in one go, and once your details are in, you’ll receive an instant confirmation email. Places are extremely limited (max 13 travellers), and twin bedding is first-come, first-served — so if you have a twin request, we recommend booking early.
