Day 2

Tokyo Highlights

Today, explore Tokyo via the bustling public transport system. Escorted by your private English-speaking guide, you’ll visit some of the city’s most famous temples, markets and shopping districts.

Later, your expert guide will take you on a tour of the Meiji Shrine. Built in honour of Emperor Meiji before his passing, the shrine is one of Tokyo’s most famous tourist attractions. Visit the Museum, where you will have the opportunity to learn more about the history of the shrine and it’s importance to Japanese culture.

Next, head to the religious Asakusa Kannon Temple. Constructed originally during the Edo period and lovingly restored over time, it has earned itself a spot on UNESCO’s list of protected cultural sites.

Break up your day at the famous open-air shopping mall, the Nakamise Shopping Arcade, before continuing onto the Ginza area. An amazing, vibrant and ever-changing cultural hub, it is one of the main districts in central Tokyo.

After exploring the city like a local, you’ll return to your hotel, taking with you memories to keep for many years to come!

Day 3

Kamakura and Hakone

After breakfast, meet your local English-speaking guide and head to the local train station for a private sightseeing tour of Kamakura and Hakone. Begin at Hakone National Park, located in the western extremity of Kanagawa Prefecture, at the foot of Mount Fuji. The volcanic region is surrounded by high peaks covered with dense forests, natural hot springs, and some of Japan’s most beautiful pine tree lined landscapes, scenic lakes and majestic rocky mountain slopes.

Cruise along the banks of Lake Ashi, taking in the stunning views of Mt. Fuji, terraced rice fields and the beautiful blue water of Sagami Bay.

Next, see Japan’s largest outdoor wooden Buddha statue and its tranquil garden at Kotokuin Temple. Take a stroll through Hase Kannon Temple and admire its beauty while learning about its history.

Return to the city with your guide, where the evening is at your leisure.

Day 4

Tokyo – Kyoto

Pack a small overnight bag, as this morning you will check out of the hotel and your main luggage will be couriered to your hotel in Kyoto arriving the following day.

Meet your English-speaking representative who will assist in taking you to the local railway station for embarkation on Japan’s famous bullet train, the Shinkansen. A must experience!

Once you arrive in Kyoto, your local guide will greet you at the station and help you get settled into your hotel. Booking a private transfer in advance can be expensive, so we recommend taking a taxi with your guide and keeping ¥1,300 (approx. $15AUD) aside for the trip. This is the most affordable mode of transport, and your guide will be there to assist with any questions or concerns that come up during the ride.

Once checked in, the remaining day is at your leisure.

Please note that hotel rooms are considerably smaller than western ones and double beds are generally sized 140 x 200cm, with few hotels offering two double beds. The spaces for suitcases in Japanese trains are very limited, this is the reason we include a separate transport for luggage.

Australian ordinary passport holders do not usually require a visa to enter Japan for up to 90 days for tourists. Passports must be valid for the entire stay however it is advisable they be valid for six months beyond the period of the intended stay. Travellers will have their fingerprints scanned and a photograph is taken upon entry into Japan. Travellers should also be able to show documents confirming their accommodation, and ability to financially maintain themselves during their stay, as well as tickets and entry documents for their next destination. In other words, you’ll be protected from incidents prior to departure, depending on your coverage.
